New album TRYING out now

hi all,

SURPRISE — there’s a new Yellow Ostrich album called TRYING, and it’s out…today. You can listen/get it on Bandcamp right now (digital + 12” vinyl) and next friday 9/12 it will go up on streaming services (until then you can hear the lead single on there - ‘Self Defense’)

We released this on our own Birdhaus Records, and i’m very excited to have VINYL RECORDS for this one — you can order those over at the Bandcamp - includes a lyric insert. There’s also a…BUMPER STICKER, praise be.

As the 9th yellow ostrich LP (good lord), it’s our most sprawling one yet, 14 songs over 47 minutes. A good chunk of it was written in 3 days last summer, in a rather feverish stretch as I was trying to avoid 4th of July festivities. soon after, the band came in (all-time heros Joey Hays, Mickey Mahoney, and Noa Dayton Francis, and we co-wrote all of these, going into the studio with Holly Hansen in January, and later working with Nat Harvie and Alec Ness. we also got some clutch guest additions from Syd Casey (guitar + vocals) and Hilary James.

mickey even managed to record most of the bass despite a debilitating arm injury (‘there are no excuses’ i believe was how i phrased it)

NOTE: making albums is very expensive and so we’d greatly appreciate any purchases on bandcamp - whether digital or vinyl, that all goes directly to us and will help us keep doing this moving forward - especially TODAY as it’s Bandcamp Friday and we get all of the $.

minneapolis release show announcement happening imminently - stay TUNED (no immediate plans to tour outside of minneapolis, as that has become quite financially impossible in recent years, but i’m keeping my ears open for opportunities that would make sense!)

giddy up! hope you enjoy,

alex
